Belgrade Pride organizers: No progress, security issue has worsened

The organizers of Belgrade Pride 2023 pointed out that as far as the law of the LGBTQ+ community is concerned, "there is absolutely no progress, and the issue of security has also worsened." This year, the emphasis was placed on the Law on Gender Identity.
The Director of Belgrade Pride, Goran Miletic, points out that Belgrade Pride 2023 will be absolutely safe and that for now there is no hint that any counter rallies will be organized.
"As for security, we have all the guarantees. I must also say that the number of members of private security that we have hired is drastically higher than in previous years, this is primarily related to what we had in May," the Director explained to N1.
Turning to Europride, which was banned, Miletic pointed out that they never received an explanation from the authorities as to why the ban was enacted.
Ana Petrovic from the organization "Da se zna" adds that this year Belgrade Pride focuses on the Law on Gender Identity.
"The problem is in the bureaucratic procedure, which can be much shorter. However, it's not just a procedure, we’re talking about real lives of real people, and there's no reason why the state shouldn't help make it a simpler process and more acceptable for people who are involved in changing documents," she told N1.
