The Serbian government is recalling the country’s ambassador to neighboring Croatia according to the Official Gazette.

Ambassador Jelena Milic was appointed to head Serbia’s embassy in Zagreb in March 2022, following a career in the NGO sector and opposition to the authorities under the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) when it came to power.

She came to the public eye when she walked out of a talk show on the pro-regime TV Pink with then Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

Milic also walked out of a conference on protection for the Croat minority in Serbia and Serb minority in Croatia when she denied claims of hate speech by an official of the Croat National Council of Serbia. She also walked out of a reception by the Serb National Council of Croatia after an award winner who expressed her support for the protesting students in Serbia.

Earlier this year, Ambassador Milic is reported to have canceled a statehood day reception after invitations were sent to the rest of the diplomatic corps. According to Zagreb Professor Dejan Jovic, the reception was scheduled to take place a month after that Serbian national holiday.
