Serbia’s neighbors reacted to the Belgrade school shooting that left 9 dead with messages of condolences and gatherings in support of the victims and their families.
In Kosovo, the Miredita Good Day festival opened in Pristina with a minute’s silence for the victims of the shooting at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school. The festival brings together artists from Belgrade and Pristina. According to an N1 reporter said that festival participants and visitors lit candles for the victims outside the National Theater in Pristina. The authorities stepped up security in schools and sent emails to parents reminding them that the safety of their children is not only up to the police.
In Croatia, the government observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the Belgrade school shooting with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic sending a message of condolences to his Serbian counterpart Ana Brnabic and the families of the victims expressing “extreme sorrow over the loss of the lives of so many children in an unprecedented case”. The Zagreb Calling NGO organized a gathering to light candles and lay flowers at a central Zagreb square with a sign saying Zagreb is With You. Belgrade 03, 05, 2023 and the initials of the dead children and security guard.
In Bosnia-Herzegovina, people lit candles in Banja Luka’s central square and laid flowers while Foreign Minister Elemdin Konakovic and BiH Federation Vice-President Igor Stojanovic visited the site of the massacre and signed a memorial book.
