Belgrade University chief in informal meeting with deans

The police raided the University School of Philosophy and the Rectorate next door under orders from prosecutors following the death of a female student reported to have fallen from the 5th floor of the school which was in the center of the student protests for more than a year.

University Chemistry School Dean Goran Roglic told N1 that the meeting was informal. “We discussed the next steps aimed at protecting the university. When it comes to what happened on Tuesday, the fact that a large number of deans was at the gathering in front of the Rectorate, that they stood at the doors to prevent conflicts speaks for itself. Most are prepared to defend the university,” he said.

He said the rector and deans will continue their discussions and the measure will depend on the next steps of the authorities. “We will be ready to react to anything that endangers Belgrade University,” he said.

He said the deans greatest fear is about saving the university. “Our greatest fear is what the authorities are going to do…. The Rector remains firm in his position to protect the university and the deans stand with him,” Roglic said.
