Serbia’s Olympic team medalists were given a warm welcome on Monday evening in the capital of Belgrade on their return from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Crowds gathered outside the Belgrade City Hall building to greet the athletes: men’s basketball team that won the bronze medal, Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec who secured gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team final, the water polo team that won the gold medal, Serbian Taekwondo team member Aleksandra Perisic who won the silver medal, and Novak Djokovic, who won the Olympic gold.
A children’s choir sang the national anthem, following which the athletes addressed the many supporters.
“This is amazing. I’ve had the honor of being on this balcony several times in my career, but each time you surprise and inspire us even more. You can’t imagine how much strength you give us. It’s the most incredible feeling a sportsman from Serbia can experience. Long live Serbia!” said Novak Djokovic.
Earlier in the evening the medal-winning athletes were received by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
