The European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell said that he had unsuccessful meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti during the Munich Security Conference.

“With Serbian President Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti, I discussed, in separate meetings, how to deescalate the tensions, without success unfortunately,” the EU High Representative wrote on his blog.

In an earlier X post, Borrell said he met separately with Vucic and Kurti. “Sustainable stability and peace in the region can only be achieved through normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. The path towards this leads through the EU-facilitated Dialogue,” he wrote in that post.

Vucic wrote in an Instagram post that the main topic they discussed were Kurti’s attempts to quietly conduct the ethnic cleansing of Serbs. “I’m afraid that the EU will not use the real mechanisms to force Kurti to give up the daily provocation and attacks on Serbs,” the Serbian President wrote.
