Borrell welcomes Kosovo’s commitment to de-escalate

The European Union’s top diplomat Josep Borrell welcomed Pristina’s commitment to an agreement to de-escalate the situation in north Kosovo.

“I welcome Kosovo's commitment to the arrangement we reached on first steps for deescalation,” the EU High Representative said in a Twitter post.
“We expect Kosovo to take further positive steps and continue to advance in this direction”, he wrote and added that the EU will carry on working in the EU-facilitated dialogue with the parties with envoy Miroslav Lajcak.
The crisis in north Kosovo started on May 26 when the newly-elected ethnic Albanian mayors of Serb-majority municipalities tried to enter the local administration buildings under police escort, drawing a violent response from the local Serb population. Protesters clashed with the Kosovo Police and KFOR troops over the next few days.
