The Thursday night brawl between Partizan Belgrade and Real Madrid players at the end of a Euroleague Basketball playoffs game made headline news in Serbian media on Friday.

The press and online media quoted tweets by players from both teams, dismissing or accepting the blame for the brawl which led to play being stopped with less than 2 minutes to go. Referees suspended all the players involved in the incident, leaving just one Real Madrid player available to play. The game was stopped because neither team had the required minimum of 2 players to continue.

The brawl started following a foul by Real Madrid’s Sergio Llull against Partizan’s Kevin Punter with both teams joining in. Referees ruled after the fight that only one Real Madrid player failed to run out onto the court leaving both teams without the minimum number of players.

Euroleague Basketball strongly condemned the brawl between Partizan Belgrade and Real Madrid at the end of a playoffs game in the capital of Spain Thursday night. “Game 2 of the playoff series between Real Madrid and Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade … is considered officially ended with the score at the time it was stopped, 80-95 in favor of Partizan, which therefore now leads the series 2-0,” Euroleague said in a press release on its portal.

A crowd of fans met the Partizan players early on Friday morning at Belgrade airport.
