Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic stated that Members of Parliament were not evacuated during the shooting incident outside the parliament, as no one expected such an event to occur. She described the tent encampment in front of the parliament as a registered gathering, representing the right to freedom of assembly.

“The parliament was not evacuated because nobody anticipated such an incident, and voting was ongoing. At no point were the MPs in danger. I am surprised that some MPs went out just before the clash and filmed the whole situation,” Brnabic told Insajder TV.

She also noted that the offices of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) had been attacked and set on fire 812 times, emphasizing that a climate of polarization had been building for months.

“This atmosphere has been created over months. Before all this, there was even a shooting at SNS offices in Vrnjacka Banja. The offices have been attacked and set on fire as many as 812 times, and the narrative that this is somehow acceptable and that political opponents should be treated this way has been perpetuated,” she said.

Brnabic’s comments highlight ongoing tensions surrounding political demonstrations and violence in Serbia, amid rising concerns over polarization and public safety.
