The Serbian president and government have been claiming for weeks that all the student demands have been met and even instructed the country’s diplomatic missions in the European Union to inform their host governments that the demands have been met despite the fact that the students have said repeatedly that they have not.
Brnabic told the pro-regime TV Happy that a draft law on higher education would be submitted and claimed that it means the students’ fourth demand for a higher education budget would be met. “We should adopt it at the next session of parliament so we can agree that at least on demand has been met in full,” she said.
The student protests started with demands for accountability for the deaths of 15 people at Novi Sad Railway Station, the identification and prosecution of men who assaulted them during their peaceful protests and an increase in the university level education budget along with the release of all documents pertaining to the reconstruction of the railway station.
