Brnabic: Full frontal attack on baloney
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday that the “Serbian opposition and Solak’s TV launched a full frontal attack on baloney as their new policy”.
Opposition officials and independent media have been commenting President Aleksandar Vucic’s recent news conference at which he announced lower prices of some foods including chicken baloney. A video released this week on social media showed Vucic with two cabinet ministers eating chicken baloney sandwiches. The announcement of lower food prices is viewed as an attempt to win over voters in poorer segments of the population.
“Frontal attack on baloney at any cost! After last week’s attempt to block the rise in salaries and pensions, prevent support for mothers with underaged children and subsidies for farmers … that boat has sailed and the opposition is now tackling baloney,” she told reporters in the city of Valjevo.
Asked by an N1 reporter if shortages of the designated foods can be expected and who will cover the difference in earlier higher and the new lower prices, Brnabic said that she doesn’t think there will be shortages. “For now they are available across Serbia in different retail chains… Trade Minister Tomislav Momirovic has spoken to the retail chains and there is no problem since this is part of their social corporative duty,” the prime minister said.
She said that she would meet with representatives of retail chains to see what other prices can be lowered.
Brnabic said that she expects inflation to drop from the current 11.5 percent to 8 percent by the end of the year.
