Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic accused opponents of the latest changes to judiciary laws of opposing earlier constitutional amendments increasing the independence of judges and prosecutors.
She told the pro-regime TV Prva that some judges and prosecutors are behaving as if they are independent of the constitution.
“Everyone accusing President Aleksandar Vucic and the ruling SNS of exerting pressure on the judiciary … opposed the constitutional amendments. If anyone fought for the independence of prosecutors and judges it was Vucic while they fought for political influence hoping to return to power and be able to elect judges and prosecutors,” Brnabic said.
She said that Vucic’s statement that judges and prosecutors have things to explain is not pressure but that he is just reminding them what they have to do.
