Speaker of the Assembly Ana Brnabic stated that the protest in Loznica against lithium mining on Friday night was a "festival of hypocrisy" and that some of the speakers at the event were those who had sold their land to "Rio Tinto" for the proposed lithium mine and who had brought the company to Serbia.

She claims that people from various parts of Serbia, who do not understand the issue, attended the protest, and that a portion of the attendees arrived organized – by buses, with a significant number also coming from the region.

Organizers had called for people from all over Serbia to join the protest in the area where the Rio Tinto mine is planned. Citizens and activists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are fighting against similar issues, also attended to show their support. Additionally, the Jadar region is located close to the Serbian border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Brnabic mentioned that Serbia began its research 23 years ago, while Germany is set to start „mining lithium“ in the third quarter of 2026 and has „unfortunately, overtaken Serbia.“

The protesters in Loznica went on a march after the rally. According to the organizers, this was the last march, and if their demands are not met, they will block the railway.
