Brnabic tells IMF delegation about priorities
Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation that her cabinet’s priorities include education-based economic growth, investments in IT, biotechnology and artificial intelligence, as well as the digitalization of the health care system and energy sector.
A press release said that she told the delegation, headed by Jan Kees Martijn, that Serbia wants to maintain fiscal stability and continue reforms. She added that the new standby arrangement being negotiated with the IMF is important in that context.
Martejn is quoted as saying that the Serbian economy has shown its resilience during “the unstable events in Europe and the world”. He said that Serbia should continue making so-called buffers to prepare for possible shocks and added that a strict monetary and fiscal policy should be maintained. According to him, the IMF wants to support Serbia.
The press release said that the IMF delegation chief “praised the fact that there is still a high level of foreign direct investment in Serbia”. It said the meeting was attended by Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic.
