Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic discussed with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Kosovo and UNMIK head Caroline Ziadeh the political situation in Kosovo and stressed that the UN’s timely reactions are very important, along with its clear and unequivocal condemnation of provocations and unilateral acts.

Brnabic said the UN is the most important international organization in the context of preserving territorial integrity and sovereignty, and that the fact that the Security Council regularly reviews the situation in Kosovo proves that the situation on the ground is unstable, with frequent incidents and attacks on Serbs, and threats to their property, said a Government press release.

The Prime Minister reminded Ziadeh that Serbs in Kosovo were denied the right to vote when they were not allowed to cast their votes at the referendum and elections this year, adding she expects the current political and security situation in Kosovo to be presented in an objective and transparent way in the UN Secretary-General’s Report on UNMIK at the Security Council meeting to be held in October.

“Serbia advocates respect for principles of international law and the application of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and will continue to invest efforts in the preservation of peace and stability,” said Brnabic, adding that Belgrade is fully committed to dialogue and that at the same time it expects Pristina to fulfill its obligations under the Brussels Agreement.

Ziadeh said UNMIK will continue to work to achieve a more peaceful and prosperous future through the improvement of respect for human rights and building of trust among communities and confirmed UNMIK’s dedication to supporting the EU-mediated dialogue aimed at reaching a compromise solution.

The Head of UNMIK especially highlighted the need for dialogue and for the honoring of the agreements reached, which also includes the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
