Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday that the Rio Tinto officials had a hard time at President Aleksandar Vucic’s public meeting in the Podrinje area.
Rio Tinto officials were present at the meeting which Vucic organized to address the concerns of the local public about plans to open a lithium mine in western Serbia at the end of this week-long stay in the Podrinje area.
According to Brnabic, the Rio Tinto officials had to field questions from local people live. “It was an incredibly positive meeting. The hardest questions came from President Vucic. The Rio Tinto people sweated at his questions,” she said.
Brnabic claimed that the fact that Vucic went to the area to meet local people who spoke openly was devastating to the protests against lithium mining. “Vucic loves his people and that is what hurts the opposition,” she said.
