The International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide was marked in Belgrade with a candle-light vigil in front of the Serbian president’s offices and an incident between right-wing and anti-fascist activists in Novi Sad.

Candles were lit for the victims of the Srebrenica massacres at a gathering organized by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in front of the Serbian President’s offices. A strong police presence was reported at that gathering, separating the vigil participants from a group of family members of Serbs killed and abducted in Kosovo. That group included pro-regime activist Simo Spasic who shouted that what happened in Srebrenica was not genocide.

In Novi Sad, dozens of local people stood up to a group of right-wing activists who said they were “celebrating the anniversary of the liberation of Srebrenica”.

The anti-fascist activists shouted Novi Sad Anti-FA City at the right-wing group who carried banners with the image of Bosnian Serb war time military chief Ratko Mladic. There were several attempts to break through the police cordon followed by a fight.
