The ceiling at the renovated train station in the town of Cuprija collapsed Monday night when no passengers were inside, a passenger told N1.
Passenger Nebojsa Ilic was waiting for his usual train to work at 7:30 am on Tuesday. He took a photo of the collapsed section of the ceiling in the station’s waiting area and sent it to N1.
Ilic is a member of the opposition Democratic Party’s (DS) Municipal Board in Cuprija.
Zoran Radulovic, head of the DS Municipal Board in Cuprija, told N1 that his colleague informed him about this on Tuesday morning.
“The train station was renovated, but the poorly executed intermediate floor construction collapsed, and fortunately, no one was injured, as far as I know,” said Radulovic.
“The renovation was done poorly. It’s a disgrace,” he said.
The Cuprija train station has been operating for over a century without a building permit. On November 25, local councilors raised this issue at a Cuprija municipal council meeting, questioning the actions of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
