Century old mill burns in Vojvodina town

The reports said the mill was built 100 years ago by the prominent Dundjerski family who owned properties and businesses across the northern Serbian province.

Firefighters were called in from the city of Novi Sad and surrounding towns to help battle the blaze which was extinguished during the night. Local residents were evacuated and power was cut to a large part of Srbobran. Unofficial reports said that the fire might have been caused by old, faulty wiring.

A Nova S reporter was warned to stay away from a part of the building because of a lightning rod which locals said is radioactive.

No serious injuries were reported.

Properties once owned by the Dundjerski and other prominent families in Vojvodina were nationalized after WW 2 and some were returned to the heirs.
