The furnishing of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party’s (SNS) new offices in the city of Kraljevo was funded by the Communist Party of China, despite Serbian laws prohibiting the financing of political parties by foreign states or foreign political entities.

N1’s reporter said that leadership from the Communist Party of China visited Kraljevo alongside Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and other SNS main board members to open the new offices. Days later, Chinese Embassy representatives made a formal visit to Kraljevo. During a press conference, the city’s mayor confirmed that the Communist Party of China had donated funds for the office.

Vladimir Marovic, an opposition councilor from the Local Front in Kraljevo, told N1 that while the SNS labels students as foreign mercenaries in its rhetoric, it is itself acting as a mercenary of another country.

He added that the Local Front in Kraljevo had filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Agency regarding the case and had informed the Transparency Serbia organization as well.

N1’s reporter emphasized that the law on financing political parties in Serbia explicitly bans financing from foreign states, foreign individuals, and legal entities, except for international political associations. So far, no institution has responded to this violation of the law.
