A group of 20 Serbian civil society organizations said on Friday that the human rights of every Serbian were violated throughout the election process which ended with the vote on December 17 and called for a possible repeat of the vote.
A joint statement said that Sunday’s elections were neither free nor fair and do not reflect the will of the electorate and indirectly undermine the legitimacy of the institutions to be formed based on the election results and any future decision taken by them.
“The Serious irregularities, violations of election rights, rules and procedures, reports by controllers and the materials that reached the public before and on election day, voter roll problems and forged signatures support to election tickets completely de-legitimized the elections,” it said.
It said that the lack of a reaction by institutions shows that the public is left to itself and the streets to protect their rights and build institutions. “We feel that the will of the people was not respected at the December 17 elections and that the competent institutions should consider annulling and rerunning the elections at republic and local level in conditions in which the irregularities will be removed as the only way that Serbian institutions can show that they respect the principle of rule of law and the election will of the citizens of Serbia,” it said.
