CoE says Serbia has 69 cases pending before ECHR

The Council of Europe (CoE) said in a report released on Friday that Serbia is one of the five countries with the most cases pending before the European Court of Human Rights.

The report by the CoE Committee of Ministers on the execution of judgments by the ECHR said that Serbia has 69 cases before the court. The Russian Federation has the largest number of cases (267), followed by Ukraine with 196, Turkey with 106 and Romania with 104.

The number of cases against Serbia before the ECHR increased from 16 in 2020. The number of cases which saw final judgements in 2021 was 31 compared to 40 a year earlier. Serbia was ordered to pay damages in 35 cases in 2021, the press release said adding that in 41 cases the payments were pending at the end of 2021.
