CoE: Serbia has more than 10,000 inmates

The Council of Europe (CoE) said that Serbia had more than 10,000 inmates in its prisons at the end of January 2023.

According to the CoE Annual Penal Statistics for 2023, that organization’s member states participating in the SPACE I survey had a total of 1,036,680 inmates in their 48 prison administrations.

“On 31 January 2023, In Serbia, total number of inmates was 10,787 persons,” it said adding that the incarceration rate is 162 inmates per 100,000 inhabitants. Serbia’s prison population grew by 4.2 percent, the CoE report said.
