Serbia ratified 2 Council of Europe (CoE) conventions governing manipulation of competitions and on safety and security at sports events, a press release said on Thursday.

It said that Serbia’s Ambassador to CoE Suzana Grubjesic deposited the instruments of ratification of the Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions, known as the Macolin Convention, and of the Convention on an Integrated Safety, Security and Service Approach at Football Matches and Other Sports Events (CETS Nº 218), known as the Saint-Denis Convention, with the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Bjørn Berge.

The press release said that the Macolin Convention is intended to prevent, detect, punish and discipline the manipulation of sports competitions, and enhance the exchange of information and national and international cooperation between the public authorities concerned, and with sports organisations and sports betting operators. The Saint-Denis Convention aims to ensure that football and other sports events provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment.

Serbia is the 14th country to ratify those 2 conventions.
