Serbia’s Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic condemned the spraying of graffiti targeting the Jewish community that, according to media reports, appeared at several locations in Belgrade.

Jankovic said the law prohibits the display of such symbols.

She said it is not just these graffiti that deserve condemnation, but all those that incite hatred or violence – racist, fascist, xenophobic— and all individual acts of intolerance that humiliate or incite hatred towards any social group or individual based on personal attributes.

The commissioner reiterated the importance of the relevant institutions’ adequate reaction, and stressed that, in Serbian society, such acts must always be condemned.
