A conference on economic power for women said on Wednesday that Serbia has progressed little in terms of gender equality despite the legal framework that is in place.

A press release by conference organizer the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation said that the latest Gender Equality Index showed that Serbia has made weak progress and that the implementation of the law on gender equality has to be monitored. It added that work should be done on documents with plans to promote gender equality.

“The work of local mechanisms, such as local economic councils, need to be improved. The inter-municipality cooperation needs to be strengthened along with service planning,” it said.

The conference was part of the platform on sustainable development implemented by GIZ with the support of the governments of Switzerland and Germany in partnership with the Foundation and several other civil society organizations.
