Conflicting statements from senior SNS officials as parliament debates government

Speaker Ana Brnabic downplayed the importance of the debate and vote, saying there is little chance the opposition could secure the support needed to topple the government. She said the ruling majority was not afraid of debate and expected the motion to fail.

Just minutes later, SNS MP group chief Milenko Jovanov MP said the outcome of the debate could pave the way for snap parliamentary elections. He said the opposition had no realistic prospect of bringing down the government. According to Jovanov, once the debate is finished, parliament could be dissolved and early elections called.
