Court orders railway infrastructure company to pay damages to Novi Sad tragedy victims

A court in Novi Sad ordered the Serbian Railways Infrastructure company to pay compensation to the families of 2 of the people who died in the tragedy at the city’s main railway station.

The collapse of a concrete canopy at the recently-reconstructed railway station claimed 16 lives on November 1, 2024. The tragedy prompted anti-corruption protests by the public and university students.
The Higher Court in Novi Sad ordered the railway infrastructure company to pay 5 million Dinars in damages to each of the families of two of the victims of the tragedy identified only by their initials in the ruling. The families sued the company.
