The Higher Court in Belgrade has partially suspended the Serbian Bar Association’s (AKS) decision to implement a seven-day work stoppage that was adopted on Saturday.

According to information provided to N1, the Higher Court rejected the AKS decision for a complete work suspension, specifically regarding the minimum work process. Lawyers will still be required to handle urgent cases.

“The Higher Court in Belgrade issued the ruling based on a suit filed by Goran Petronijevic. We are now waiting for this decision, which has ‘leaked’ from the court, to be officially drafted and delivered to the Bar Association of Serbia so that the Bar can inform its members and the public about the annulment of Saturday’s decision. In effect, the work stoppage has been interrupted, and work must resume,” lawyer Milos Pavlovic explained for N1.

When asked about lawyers’ compliance with the ruling, Pavlovic said it would be both a matter of professional ethics and personal responsibility.

“What is certain is that this is an obstruction carried out by the government and this regime,” said Pavlovic.

He called on lawyers to resolve the crisis. “A new Assembly of the Serbian Bar Association should be convened, and support should be given to students, educators, and the entire public currently on strike,” he said.

Following the Bar Association’s Saturday decision to suspend work, the Serbian President appeared on pro-regime Happy TV where he referred to Serbian lawyers as a “mob.”
