The Higher Court in Belgrade rejected as groundless Telenor’s appeal to a ruling which rejects a demand for a temporary ban on the publication of any information about Telenor’s planned deal with Telekom Serbia, N1 said on Thursday.
“The Higher Court rejected as groundless the appeal by Telenor on a ruling which rejected the demand to impose temporary measures which would ban N1 Program Director Jugoslav Cosic and N1 portal Editor Nikola Stojic from publishing virtually any information and comments about the planned cooperation between Telekom and Telenor before the law suit is finished under threat of fines of 300,000 Dinars for any report. Earlier, the Higher Court rejected Telenor’s demand on February 8 and that was confirmed now,” a statement said.
“Telenor Serbia filed suit with the Higher Court in Belgrade on February 5 demanding damages from Jugoslav Cosic, Nikola Stojic and Adria News Belgrade over what it claimed was a negative media campaign against Telenor in relation to the planned cooperation between Telekom and Telenor.
“The law suit included a demand for damages to be paid by the defendants to Telenor amounting to almost a million Euro. The law suit said that the N1 TV and portal published a huge amount of untrue information about Telenor on its planned business cooperation with Telekom which is allegedly a negative media campaign against Telenor and which has allegedly already inflicted huge material damage.
“N1 reported on the cooperation between Telenor and Telekom in line with the highest standards of journalism and provided and still continues to provide all relevant players, including Telenor, an opportunity to present their views on the issue,” N1 said.
