The Higher Court in Belgrade released 8 students suspected of preparing to overthrow the government.
The court rejected a demand to hold them in custody after the initial 48 hours that the law allows suspects to be held in police custody. The arrests sparked road blocks across Serbia over the weekend continuing into this week.
The Higher Public Prosecution said it would appeal the court ruling and demand the suspects be held in jail because of what the prosecution called specific circumstances which indicate that they might repeat the crime. They were arrested based on an alleged recording of a meeting at which they planned what the authorities said would be a violent overthrow of the government.
