Court temporarily bans geological exploration of lithium in western Serbia
The Higher Court in Serbia’s western town of Valjevo temporarily banned “applied geological research pf boron and lithium to the Euro lithium Balkans comapny,” a lawyer for the people from neighbouring villages said on Thursday.
Sreten Djordjevic said the temporary measure would be in force until the final ruling in procedure the villagers launched with the Mining Ministry demanding the status of a party with an opposite interest in the case against Euro Lithium Balkan company.
They also requested the rejection of the company’s demand to extend the permit for the applied geological research in the Valjevo – Mionica region.
Djordjevic’s office added that the villagers protested on November 7, demanding the end of the geological research after the Chemistry Faculty’s analysis showed soil contamination from two exploration wells.
The western Kolubara Valley villagers will continue to fight for their rights and the absolute ban of the researches, the statement has added.
