COVID-19 cases surge compared to last year
In the second week of August this year, there were four times as many COVID-19 cases registered compared to the same period last year, said the Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut Public Health Institute in a written statement to Radio Free Europe (RFE).
The Institute reported 1,040 confirmed cases out of just over 3,000 tests conducted that week.
While the number of tests decreased by 16.6 percent, the number of confirmed cases was about four times greater than in the same week of 2023, said Batut.
It added that most patients are experiencing mild to moderate symptoms that do not require hospitalization.
