Historically, we are on a turning point because what is being done with the rivers is like a dark force that will destroy everything before we destroy ourselves, Darko Rundek, a famous Croatian musician, tells 'Artists for the Rivers of the Balkans' in Serbia's central town of Kraljevo, on Tuesday.
"It can't work that way on this small planet," he added.
Speaking about the endangerment of Serbia's rivers, he said that it looked "like a wound in the landscape."
The Right to Water Initiative, also taking part in the event, is a network of activists fighting to protect waters in Serbia polluted, as it says, by privatisation and exploitation.
"We oppose the sale of shores, springs, streams and water supply systems. The right to water is the right to life," the Initiative motto says.
Rundek said that "it is important for human dignity and quality of life to be connected with the environment to which we belong and nature which we are a part of."
"It is not a question of some external responsibility, but a responsibility towards oneself. When there is an opportunity for us to support that awareness, it is valuable, and we will continue to do so," he added.
Rundek and the Team will have a free of charge concert on Kraljevo's main square later on Tuesday.
