Croatian movie director Rajko Grlic has been nominated to become a foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences along with Russian fellow director Nikita Mihalkov, the Nova.rs portal reported on Wednesday.
Grlic’s nomination fell one vote short of winning the required majority in a secret ballot organized by the Arts Department but according to the rules for the election of members, his name will be on the agenda of the SANU assembly which elects new members every three years. He was nominated by painter Milica Stevanovic. Mihalkov also did not win the majority support of the Arts Department.
Zagreb-born Grlic is one of a generation of Yugoslav-born filmmakers who graduated from the Film Academy in Prague and has authored some 30 movies. Grlic has collaborated with a number of Serbian actors of several generations.
