Croatian government finances Croat minority project in Serbia

The Croatian National Council in Serbia said that the government of Croatia has secured more than a quarter million Euro to build the Croatian House in the city of Subotica.

A press release said that official Zagreb had earmarked two million Kune (266,000 Euro) for the project and to “strenghten the Croatian community in Serbia”. The Croatian House will be home to the Croatian National Council and the Hrvatska Rijec publishing house. National minorities in Serbia have the right to form National Councils to decide on issues such as education which are important to their communities.

The project was launched at a groundbreaking ceremony in April. The press release said that that the Croatian government also helped buy land next to the building which houses the National Council at present.
