The Croatian Vukovar-Srem County Police Department on Friday confirmed that a young police officer, who has dual Croatian and Serbian citizenship and who was suspended in 2023 for failing to notify his superiors of having responded to a call to be entered in the Serbian army register, has been reinstated.

According to a press release from the police department, which did not reveal the policeman’s identity, his suspension has expired and he has been reinstated.

The disciplinary proceedings against him were completed on 28 December by the disciplinary court in Osijek, which found him guilty of violating his official duties and fined him.

The 21-year-old policeman, who had been deployed at the Tovarnik border police station, accepted, while in Serbia’s territory in late 2022, a document inviting him to register with the Serbian army register.

He failed to notify his superiors of this and was therefore suspended on 7 November 2022, and disciplinary proceedings were launched against him, police department spokesman Dragoslav Zivkovic said in January 2023.
