The very beginning of the new year brought changes to Croatia. As of January 1, 2023, that country is a full member of the Schengen area. This means that border controls at the road, rail and sea crossings between Croatia and Slovenia and Hungary, which are also members of the Schengen zone, have been abolished. However, those novelties mean almost nothing to Serbia.

The entry brings great relief to Croatian, Slovenian and Hungarian citizens, as these EU member states but also to tourists, as it means the end of long queues in the season and long waits at the border.

However, when it comes to Serbia, the situation remains unchanged. The Interior Ministry told N1 that the control of all those entering or leaving Serbia will remain the same and that there will be no major changes for citizens of Serbia when crossing the border, as well as citizens of third countries who are in transit.

The Ministry also said that in the coming period they do not expect longer waits at the border crossings to Croatia than usual, except for holidays and during the summer season. Travellers who have gone to Croatia say that the fact that they have one less border will make their journey easier.
