Croatia's Jandrokovic: Serbia cannot count on our support if it continues on this political path

Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic said on Friday that Serbia cannot count on Croatia’s support for continuing its European Union (EU) accession talks if it remains on the political course demonstrated at the funeral of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic in Belgrade.

“If Serbia remains on this political path, it cannot count on Croatia’s support not only for EU membership, but also for the continuation of its accession negotiations,” Jandrokovic, a member of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), said.
In a meeting with European Commission Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition Teresa Ribera, Jandrokovic noted that there was broad agreement on the issue among the parties represented in the Croatian Parliament, the Croatian Parliament’s press service said.
Jandrokovic briefed Ribera on current political developments, focusing in particular on Ratko Mladic’s funeral in Belgrade on Monday, which was held with support from Serbian state institutions.
He said that such a send-off for a convicted war criminal was completely unacceptable and contrary to European values, adding that the atmosphere in Serbia and the political rhetoric there remind many of the 1990s.
“Such a Serbia poses a serious threat to the security and stability of Southeast Europe,” the press service quoted Jandrokovic as saying.
