A majority of citizens rate the functioning of democracy in Serbia as poor, with only 25 percent describing it as positive, says a report of the Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA) observation mission.

According to the survey entitled “Views of the citizens of Serbia on participation in democratic processes in 2022,” 21 percent of respondents said the Serbian Parliament is doing good work.

It also said that 52 percent of respondents believe that, despite all the difficulties, democracy is the best political system for Serbia, while only 31 percent of respondents think that changes in the country are possible.

The survey results show that 53 percent of respondents see politics as an arena in which all citizens should participate, however, only 15 percent believe they are capable of engaging in politics.

According to the research, 20 percent of citizens have participated in an activity aimed at resolving problems in the local community.

The report also said that 43 percent of respondents believe that civil society organizations, that is, non-governmental organizations, protect the public interest and fight for changes in society.
