Aleksandar “Cuta” Jovanovic of the Ecological Uprising environmental organization said that, on behalf of the Serbian Government, outgoing Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic signed a memorandum giving away the site of the former military headquarters in central Belgrade, heavily damaged in the 1999 NATO bombing, to American offshore companies Kushner Realty and Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC.
Speaking at a media conference in Belgrade, Jovanovic explained that the Ecological Uprising obtained a copy of the memorandum from the Ministry of Defense, which received the document on February 9.
“It refers to the revitalization and development of the General Staff site that the Serbian Government and its authorized representative, outgoing Construction Minister Goran Vesic, intend to carry out with the company Kushner,” said Jovanovic.
According to him, the company Kushner Realty was registered on March 8, 2022 in the American federal state Delaware, known as an offshore zone, at the address of Jonathan Kushner, a cousin of former US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
“The Serbian Government authorized Goran Vesic to draw up a memorandum of understanding, to build something they call development and revitalization at this location, to allow the company Kushner and this sister company to enter into a 99 year lease of the location free of charge, and then, after 99 years, the company can become the owner of the location. This is Belgrade Waterfront part 2,” said Jovanovic.
He noted that the General Staff complex (which includes the buildings of the former military headquarters and Defense Ministry) was declared a monument of culture in 2005, and called on the government to publish all documentation regarding this matter without delay.
