Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed on Wednesday that an artillery shell was found by construction workers at a site just outside parliament in central Belgrade. Pročitaj više
Dacic said that the site was secured by the police and Ministry Emergency Situations Sector personnel. He said the shell is presumed to date from WW I, adding that the 300 mm grenade weighs some 200 kilograms.
According to the minister, Emergency Situations Sector personnel assessed the situation before deciding how to remove the shell. Dacic said there is no immediate danger.
“There have been several similar cases this year without any problems,” he said, recalling the Belgrade was shelled and bombed several times in the 20th century with some of those munitions left over.
