Serbia Assembly Speaker and Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica Dacic called on the citizens to go to the referendum on changing the Constitution on January 16, vote "yes" and thus show "civic awareness because it is in their interest for the referendum to succeed." However part of the opposition opposes this as they believe it would inflict political damage on the authorities.

„These changes are the condition of all conditions for further progress in the European integration process. European institutions have been asking for a change in the Constitution for years, believing that the current way of electing judges and prosecutors in the parliament is politicization, but citizens also complained about the judiciary,“ Dacic told Prva TV.

According to him, part of the opposition is using lies, claiming that the part concerning Kosovo is being changed in the Constitution, but adds that this is impossible because the amendments refer only to the judicial part.

„It is now a political struggle. Some opposition parties don’t want the referendum to succeed, that is, they want the citizens to vote against it, trying to weaken the government and inflict political damage on us before the elections and as a preparation for them,“ Dacic said.
