Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic said that the man who killed a police officer earlier this week has been shot dead.

“Police officers eliminated the killer of the policeman in the vicinity of Loznica,” said Dacic.

One police officer was shot dead and another seriously wounded in a shooting incident on the night of Wednesday-Thursday in the western Serbian city of Loznica. The attacker was initially identified as Artan Hajziri. However, it turned out that this was a case of mistaken identity as the murder suspect, Faton Hajrizi, was traveling with his brother Artan's documents. Police found these documents at the crime scene.

The shooting happened during a routine vehicle inspection when the police stopped a vehicle carrying two passengers.

As he was getting out of the car, the attacker opened fire. He shot police officer Nikola Krsmаnovic (34) in the chest, and his colleague Vjekoslаv Ilic (50) in the shoulder, and then fled the scene. Krsmаnovic died in the hospital.

Dacic said Thursday the attack on police officers Nikola Krsmanovic and Vjekoslav Ilic is believed to be “a terrorist attack organized by Albanian structures in Kosovo”.
