Dacic says he intervened after his party official’s appearance on N1

Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic on Friday said that there is unity within the SPS regarding the implementation of a joint policy with its ruling coalition partner, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and that any “deviations” will be sanctioned to prevent negative reactions.

Speaking on Prva TV, Dacic addressed the recent appearance of SPS Main Board vice-chair and MP Branko Ruzic on N1 television, saying he had already taken corrective action.
“I am taking corrective action. From the very start, I said that the SPS is proud of its cooperation with the SNS. We are one of the pillars of the political organization working for Serbia’s interests. We are committed to maintaining our cooperation with the SNS. We will take action against anything that could trigger negative reactions. Party unity in implementing our shared policies is paramount,” said Dacic, who is also Serbia’s Internal Affairs Minister.
He added that he emphasized during a recent party leadership meeting that all members must stick to the party line, and that “there can be no deviations.”
“The proposal received unanimous support, including from Ruzic himself,” Dacic added.
During his appearance on N1 TV, Ruzic criticized Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic’s “infantile” approach to politics, and said that the authorities should arrest Dragan Djilas, the leader of the opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), if it is true that he stole 619 million euros.
When asked what he thinks of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Ruzic said that a system with clear subordination has been established which produces results and positive effects.
Some pro-government tabloids accused Ruzic of turning against a government he has been part of for 12 years, and defending Djilas and United Media founder and co-owner Dragan Solak.
