Dacic: Socialists to run independently, no secret talks with Progressives

Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic said that the party will run independently in the upcoming elections, dismissing speculation regarding behind-the-scenes negotiations over an electoral alliance with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

“Back in July, the SPS Main Board backed my announcement that we would run independently in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections and field our own presidential candidate. This was unanimously supported by all 500 members present at the Main Board meeting,” Dacic told the daily Politika.
“We have long run in coalition with our traditional partners, United Serbia and Greens of Serbia, and nothing has changed in that regard,” the SPS leader added.
Dacic also noted that the party has set an internal deadline of August 25 for municipal, city, and district boards to submit their candidate lists for both the parliamentary and presidential races. He indicated that the presidential elections are likely to be held in late December or January.
