Dacic: Sonic cannon statements based on police data

“If anyone made a mistake, the police did,” he said answering opposition MPs’ questions about the sonic weapon used against protesters at a mass gathering in Belgrade on March 15.

“I said we don’t have a sound cannon because the device was not bought as such. It was bought as a powerful megaphone and was bought for that purpose, to inform the public,” he said adding that there are no legal grounds to use it in any other way.

Zdravko Ponos MP (leader of SRCE) asked why the Internal Control report makes no mention of the purchase of something that was not allowed and asked Dacic what he did after he learned that the police has something it should not have in its arsenal.

“I can’t go into why it was bought or when it was bought but it wasn’t against the law,” he said, adding that the acoustic device “was never used before or afterwards”.
