Parliament Speaker Ivica Dacic said in Moscow on Wednesday that Serbia will never impose sanctions on its great partner and friend Russia.

Serbia is prepared to continue its historic friendship and brotherhood with Russia which it should be proud of, Dacic said in a speech to the State Duma, adding that the current excellent relations are based on centuries-old stable foundations. “The proof of the stable friendly and political relations is Russia’s consistent support for the territorial integrity of Serbia and the lack of willingness of the Republic of Serbia to join in the sanctions against Russia,” he said, adding that Russia firmly shares Serbia’s view that Kosovo is its inalienable part.

“They are telling us to give up on Kosovo and see the way open to the European Union. That is not what partners says. We want to join the EU, we are working hard for that and we are not changing that goal as our strategic priority but we do not agree to obstacles on that path which were never placed before anyone else nor can something like recognizing illegal secession be expected from a sovereign state,” Dacic said, speaking in Russian.
