Dacic tells parliament committee Serbia has LRAD100X
Internal Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic told the Serbian Parliament’s Defense and Internal Affairs Committee that no illegal weapons were used at the March 15 protest in Belgrade and confirmed that the police had an LRAD100X allegedly used for communication.
Committee members asked the minister what type of sonic weapon the security forces have and Dacic replied that the MUP had an LRAD100X which he claims was bought to use for voice messages and not sonic waves. He added that the weapon was never on the list of weapons used by the MUP.
He added that the Ministry (MUP) did not hand over that weapon to anyone else. “In order for that weapon to be used, the Director of Police has to issue the order. It would be impossible to issue an order to use an illegal weapon,” he said.
Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic told the committee that the Cobras special forces unit, which provides security for the president and his offices, used what he called an anti-drone gun.
The LRAD100X is classified as an acoustic weapon which can be used for communication, warning but also as a means of dispersing crowds as seen on the evening of March 15 in Belgrade.
