Belgrade daily Blic said on Monday that early elections could be held in September.
The daily quoted off the record statements by high-ranking Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) sources who said the possible date of early elections was discussed after a sharply-intoned speech by SNS leader President Aleksandar Vuvic at a meeting of the party’s top officials.
“We’re better off in the opposition than to have party and private interests guide the country. I am ready to stand in elections as candidate for prime minister but I won’t back down to blackmail,” Vucic is reported to have told that meeting.
